We catch the Wisconsin & Southern Madison-Janesville manifest for the second morning in a row. Today's version of the train has one less engine than January 3rd's, but a lot more cars (go figure). Here we see it crossing Washington Road as WSOR 4005's good loud K5LA echoes off the snow-covered fields between Stoughton and Edgerton.

The Wisconsin & Southern's third Madison-Janesville manifest of the new year rumbles across Cooper's Causeway, the bridge over the Yahara River in Stoughton on a snowy January 3, 2008. Power was SD40-2 WSOR 4007 and GP38 3806. Listen to that horn at the end!

The UP Janesville local has some interesting power and interchange traffic today. Patched Southern Pacific GP40-2 UP 1421 leads, followed by UP 1362 and 1360. Dead-in-tow behind the UP power is ex-Wisconsin & Southern SD20 2054, now relettered BEBX and destined for Cargill in Fairmont, Minnesota. We see that train cross Delavan Drive and pass under Highway 51 with the usual ex-C&NW bay window caboose bringing up the rear. After that we see a little switching action from both railroads around town, first UPY MP15DCs 1320 and 1318, then WSOR 4050 switching at Five Points. Video by my dad.

A very late WSOR J2 rolls through downtown Stoughton to the clamor of a WCH mechanical crossing bell. All three of the locomotives have changed in their appearance since this video. The two lead units, SD20s 2052 and 2053, are no longer with the railroad. The third unit, SD40-2 4053, has since been repainted to a special "Grow Wisconsin Map" paint scheme. Video by my dad.
